Who are Registrar and Transfer agents (RTA)?
Registrar and Transfer Agents (RTA) are institutions associated with a company to maintain investors records. The RTA records transactions such as issuing certificates, sending notices on corporate actions, and any other details.
RTA’s also handle other details such as:
-Determine which shareholders should receive the shares on IPO, dividends, bonus issue of shares and interest payments in the case of bondholders.
-When a company sets a record date, the RTA verifies the shareholders who own the stock on the record date.
-It indulges in rematerialisation, dematerialization, the name change of shares, transfer of shares on death, etc.
